Air frying is an easy way to cook food using hot air instead of oil. This method produces a golden-brown crust on the outside while keeping the inside moist and fluffy.

The best part of using an air fryer is that you can get extra crispy hash browns without all the mess of deep frying. This is a game changer if you're trying to eat less fat and calories but still want a crispy texture.

Since we love breakfast so much, we're always exploring different ways to cook breakfast foods. These frozen air fryer frozen hash browns didn't disappoint! We tested three kinds of hash browns and they all returned crispy results from the air fryer. They really are the perfect side dish to the fried egg and fresh fruit on your breakfast plate.

So, the next time cereal and milk doesn't do the trick, grab a bag of frozen hash browns from the grocery store and give these air fryer frozen hash browns a try! They will be the perfect addition to your quick breakfast routine.

Why this recipe works

Super easy - these air fryer frozen hash browns could not be easier to make! Just a few simple steps and you'll have delicious, crispy hash browns in no time. These hash browns are entirely cooked through and ready to eat within 10-25 minutes!

Less grease - these hash browns are made with a little bit of oil, but there is no deep-frying involved! You can control how much fat you would like to use (or not use), and the end result is perfectly crispy without extra grease.

Easy clean-up - the best part about this recipe is that there is minimal clean-up involved. You can use cooking spray to eliminate any leftover stuck-on food particles in your air fryer. And you can throw your air fryer parts in the dishwasher when finished!

Versatile - complete your breakfast with my White Sausage Gravy, Southern White Gravy, McDonald's Copycat Pancakes, or these Huevos Rancheros, or this Vegetable Frittata!

Ingredients

  • Hash Browns - I used a package of shredded frozen hash browns, frozen hash brown patties, and a package of Simply Potatoes refrigerated, shredded potatoes.
  • Cooking spray/oil - oil is optional if you're trying to cut down on fat and calories, however cooking spray will help keep the hash browns from drying out too much. We like olive oil spray and avocado oil spray.
  • Seasonings - kosher salt, sea salt, and black pepper are standard. Add any or all of these spices depending in your personal preference: some onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper are all great with potatoes.

Top tips

  • Taste at the halfway point to decide how much salt you need.
  • Spread in an even layer.
  • No need to flip over unless desired.
  • Add other seasonings like garlic powder, cayenne pepper, or paprika.
  • Always check your hash browns and adjust cooking time as needed.
  • Frozen patties are already fried, so there may not be a need to add any cooking spray, especially if your basket is non-stick.

Storage and reheating

Store any leftover hash browns in an airtight container immediately after eating. They will last in the fridge for 3-5 days.

Reheat in the microwave until warmed through. Or if you prefer crispier leftovers, use your skillet or air fryer on medium heat with a little oil or cooking spray.

You can freeze leftover hash browns in a freezer storage zip top bag or other air tight container for about 3 months.

To reheat from frozen:

Microwave on low power or defrost to loosen hash browns. Continue to heat in the microwave until heated, or heat in the air fryer or skillet with a little oil or cooking spray. Use a medium heat until heated though.
