Everyone can agree that apples are a healthy snack. But what happens when you have a sweet tooth and crave something a little, extra?

Enter these air fryer apple slices! They are a delicious way to enjoy apples as a sweet treat with just minutes of prep.

With apple season just around the corner, you can't go wrong with this delicious treat. And if apple picking is your thing, then this will be a great way to use up all those juicy apples in an easy and fun way.

These air fryer apple slices are a delicious snack straight out of the air fryer, but they are even better dipped in this easy homemade caramel sauce or this easy caramel whipped cream.

Ingredients needed

This is an overview of the recipe. Scroll to the bottom of the post for precise amounts and printable recipe card.

Apples - choose your favorite apples for this recipe. I used honey crisp apples because they are crisp and have a balanced flavor--not too sweet and not too tart. I don't peel the apples for this recipe, but you may depending on your preference.

All purpose flour - helps the egg white stick to the slices. Use gluten-free flour if needed.

Egg whites - I used store bought egg whites. I prefer them to whole eggs because they are less "eggy". Egg whites also give the air fryer apples slices its crisp texture. You can use whole eggs, just be sure to let any excess drip off entirely. If you don't want to use eggs, try melted butter instead.

Graham cracker crumbs - use homemade or store bought. If making homemade, be sure to grind them finely and evenly. Using plain dry bread crumbs is also an option, but the coating will be less sweet, so plan to increase the amount of sugar.

White granulated sugar - used to make the cinnamon sugar. Brown sugar might work too.

Cinnamon - used to make the cinnamon sugar. Cinnamon is a common spice to use with apples, but there are many other great options you could try including: apple pie spice, pumpkin pie spice, cloves, nutmeg, and cardamon.

Non-stick cooking spray - to spray the air fryer basket.

Ingredients to make air fryer apples.

Instructions

1) Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper, foil, or wax paper.

2) Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.

3) You'll need 3 shallow bowls to coat the apple slices. Place flour in one bowl and egg whites in another. Mix graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and cinnamon in the last bowl, mixing well to combine.

4) Cut an apple into 8 slices. Cut away the core or use an apple corer before making your slices.

5) Dip sliced apples in the flour, then the egg whites, letting any excess drip off. Then dip slices in the cinnamon mixture. Be sure to coat all sides of the slices.

6) Set apples on the prepared baking sheet while you work in batches to coat each slice.

7) Place apples slices (skin side down) in a single layer in the air fryer basket.

8) Air fry at 380 degrees F for 6 to 7 minutes. Cooking time may vary depending on the size of your slices.

9) Serve with warmed caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, peanut butter, maple syrup, a drizzle of honey, or as is.

Kitchen tips

  • It's important to choose the best apples possible. Be sure they are free from bruises, indentations, and are firm.
  • Don't cut thin slices for this recipe. Thicker slices work best.
  • Top warm apple slices with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for some cozy apple pie vibes!

How to store and reheat

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.

Reheat in the air fryer or oven at 350 degrees F for about 5 minutes or until heated through.

Freezing isn't recommended.

How to choose the best apples

Apples are the star of this simple recipe so you'll want to get ones with great flavor.

For tart apples you might like Granny Smith apples, McIntosh, and Pink Lady apples.

For sweet apples you might like Fuji, Gala, and Honey Crisp.

Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Braeburn apples fall somewhere in the middle.
