Why my authentic fajita seasoning
- Authentic flavor from a blend of common spices found at the grocery store.
- Healthier than seasoning packets that contain preservatives like msg.
- Can be made different ways by adding additional spices depending on your taste preferences.
- Not just for fajitas - use in place of taco seasoning for the best tacos.
Use this recipe to make my quick Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas!
Ingredients
- Salt - I used table salt for this recipe because I wanted the fine texture. Kosher salt can be uses as a substitute. Keep in mind that table salt is "saltier" than kosher salt.
- Ancho chile powder - this is what gives this seasoning its authentic taste. Ancho chile powder is made from dried poblano peppers and the flavor is smokey and mild. Chile powder (the one used to make chili con carne) is a blend, not pure. It can be substituted, but the flavor is not quite the same.
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
- Seasoned salt - I used Lawry's brand
- Black pepper
- Paprika

Instructions
1) Add spices to a small bowl. Stir together until well combined.
2) Store in an air-tight container or mason jar in a cool dry place or your spice cabinet.

Kitchen tips
- Adjust amounts to your personal preference.
- If you want to add add kick, add cayenne pepper. One or two teaspoons is plenty!
- You can easily halve or double the recipe.
- Other possible spices to add include in your authentic fajita seasoning include ground cumin and dried Mexican oregano.

Kathy Lubner says
What do you mix the seasoning with to marinate the chicken
Nikole Berg says
Hi Kathy, you can marinate using just this seasoning as a dry rub. Just cover the meat and leave in the refrigerator for up to a day or if you want leave it for just 30 minutes, you can leave it on the counter top. However, if you want add liquid to make a true marinade, I would add half a cup of olive oil (or other neutral oil) and about and ounce of citrus juice (lime, lemon, orange, etc.) or some white wine vinegar (or vinegar of choice). You can also add a little bit of dijon mustard. Then mix in about 3 tablespoons of the seasoning mix. Adjust amounts to taste of course! Hope this helps!
