I love a creamy honey mustard, but as the weather warms, I get more and more in the mood for something lighter. Enter this delicious honey mustard dressing without mayo, for a light and tangy taste.

This salad dressing is our go-to in the spring and summer. Just toss it on a salad with some grilled chicken (or chicken tenders) red onion or green onions, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes and you'll be in the healthy section of hog heaven.

I like to make a double batch when I meal prep so it's easy to put together a quick lunch or dinner. Making homemade salad dressings ahead of meal time is a great way to save money and speed up the cooking process.

Next time you're at the grocery store, skip the store-bought options and make your own honey mustard dressing without mayo at home instead. It's an easy way to save a few bucks and serve something homemade. Check out my other No Mayo Avocado Ranch dressing!

Why you'll want to make this salad dressing

No mayo here, just a light vinaigrette consistency.

Simple ingredients from the pantry.

Tangy and sweet flavor pair perfectly with spinach and fruit salads.

Versatile enough to be used as a sauce on roasted veggies, grilled chicken, and seafood.

Ingredients

  • Dijon mustard - using regular mustard will taste different, but it's another version you might like.
  • Dry mustard powder
  • Honey or maple syrup, agave nectar
  • Apple cider vinegar or another fruity vinegar like raspberry.
  • Canola oil, vegetable oil, or a mild olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil is also delicious, but keep in mind that it does have a flavor, where the other options are neutral.
  • Sesame oil or another nutty one like walnut oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Tips

  • You may prefer using mason jars to make your homemade dressings.
  • Add one glove of garlic (pressed of finely minced) or half a teaspoon of garlic powder.
  • Try lemon juice instead of vinegar.
  • Use a local honey to support your community.
  • Double or triple for a big batch or if you're meal planning.
  • Add a dollop of Greek yogurt to thicken it and use as a dipping sauce.

How to store

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator and use within one week. Mason jars work well. Be sure to give it a good shake before serving as the honey mustard dressing will have separated.
