Are you ready to elevate your appetizer game? Look no further than the trusty air fryer! Not only does it make cooking a breeze, but it also results in a perfectly crispy and golden exterior that's sure to impress even the pickiest of eaters- all with less oil and without deep frying.

Egg rolls are a delicious and convenient option for a quick snack or meal. And now they can be cooked to perfection in just minutes since air frying creates a golden brown, crispy texture in less time! No need to heat up the oven or deal with messy oil splatters on the stovetop because it uses hot air instead of oil.

So next time you're craving a crunchy and delicious snack, reach for some air fryer Tai Pei egg rolls. You won't be disappointed!

Why you'll love it

  • Uses store-bought egg rolls for convenience
  • Shorter cooking time than baking in the oven
  • Perfect snack or easy appetizer when short on time

Ingredients

Frozen egg rolls - there are many different brands to choose from. We used Tai Pei brand because they are the most popular in my grocery store. They have all varieties, including chicken egg rolls, vegetable egg rolls, pork and shrimp varieties. Feel free to choose your favorite.

Cooking spray - this is optional. We like to use it because it helps the egg roll wrapper crisp. Olive oil spray works great. If you don't have any cooking spray on hand, lightly brush some vegetable oil over the egg rolls.

Dipping sauce - you can choose a store bought sweet chili sauce, sweet and sour sauce, duck sauce (read all about it below!) or even use some low sodium soy sauce.

Equipment

  • Ninja Air Fryer XL 5.5 quart
  • Air Fryer Liners
  • Silicone Tongs
  • Airtight container

I'm also a huge fan of the Cosori Air Fryer Pro Gen 5.8 quart

Instructions

Be sure you're familiar with your air fryer. The Ninja recommends preheating so I did so at 390 degrees F for three minutes.

Place egg rolls to the preheated air fryer air fryer basket in a single layer. Leave a bit a space between them.

If desired, spritz with cooking spray to coat evenly.

Set timer to 10 minutes. Cook, turning egg rolls over at the halfway point. Spritz again, if desired.

Kitchen tips

Air fryers vary by brand and model. For best results, add more cook time in one minute increments if necessary to achieve crunchy egg rolls. Or reduce cook time if when crispy and heated throughout.

Quick facts

What is the trick to perfectly golden air fryer food?

A quick spritz of cooking spray will help you achieve perfectly crisp texture and golden brown color. This method is a great alternative to deep frying, which can add a ton of extra fat and calories.

What's the difference between spring rolls and egg rolls?

Egg roll wrappers are made with flour, water, and egg while spring roll wrappers are made with just four and water. When the rolls are fried, egg rolls are usually covered in tiny little bubbles while spring rolls will remain smooth. The exterior of the egg roll is a bit denser and chewier, while spring rolls are very light, crisp, and flakey. Fillings vary, but egg rolls are usually made with cooked cabbage and pork, while spring rolls are usually filled with just vegetables.

What is duck sauce and how did it get its name?

Duck sauce varies by region in America, but most folks have probably encountered the orange condiment in their Chinese food take-out order. It is typically made with a combination of apricot jam or preserves, vinegar, sugar, and various spices such as ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes. The sauce is often served as a dipping sauce for egg rolls, spring rolls, and other fried appetizers, or as a glaze for meat dishes such as roast duck or chicken. While the name "duck sauce" may suggest that it contains duck, the sauce is typically vegetarian and does not contain any duck meat.

How to store and reheat

Store leftover egg rolls in airtight containers in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

Refreezing isn't recommended.

Reheat in the air fryer at 390 degrees F until hot throughout, about 5 minutes.

My air fryer is a lot hotter than yours, turned the heat down to 370 1/2 way thru the process! Turned out fantastic!
