The Bahama mama smoothie is one of the most popular drinks from Tropical Smoothie Café, and for good reason.

This smoothie is a delicious drink bursting with sweet tropical flavors like strawberry, pineapple, and coconut.

But there's a secret ingredient in this copycat recipe that might surprise you...it's white chocolate chips!

Using simple ingredients to make a healthy drink like this one is the perfect way to treat yourself without having to drive to Tropical Smoothie Café.

Try this for breakfast today and I know you'll be hooked.

    Ingredients

Frozen strawberries - you can buy fresh strawberries and freeze them or just buy them already frozen for convenience. By the way, real fruit like strawberries are full of vitamin C.

Frozen pineapple - the same goes here...you can prepare fresh fruit and freeze it, or just buy it already frozen.

Coconut milk - this is what gives this smoothie its creaminess. It also adds a dose of healthy fat that can be part of your daily diet. I used full fat, but light will also work well.

Milk - your choice of milk will work here. I like to use plant-based ingredients for this smoothie, so I reach for oat milk or almond milk. But cow's milk is also a great option and can be a great addition.

White chocolate chips- I use chips, but whole pieces of white chocolate can be used, just be sure to chop it up a bit before blending so you get just hints of white chocolate. Don't forget to save a few for garnishes.

Sweetener - you can use honey, maple syrup, agave nectar, or just white sugar. You can also skip the additional sweetness if your fruit is already sweet.

ingredients to make the smoothie recipe

    Equipment needed

    • High-speed blender
    • Nutri Bullet blender
    • Glasses with bamboo lids

How to make a bahama mama tropical smoothie cafe recipe

Add strawberries, pineapples chunks, coconut milk, milk, white chocolate chips, and sweetener to the blender.

Pulse until ingredients start to come together.

Blend on a high speed until you create a smooth texture; about 30 seconds to one minute.

Try a slice of fresh pineapple or strawberry to garnish the glass and few chopped up pieces of white chocolate and coconut flakes.

Tips for the best bahama mama tropical smoothie recipe

Add more liquid like more milk, water or some pineapple juice if you like a thinner consistency or to get the thickness just right for you.

Frozen fruit makes this refreshing drink ice cold so there's no need for crushed ice.

If you plan to use fresh cut fruit, you'll want to add some ice to get it really cold and icy. Start with ¼ cup.

When fresh fruit is in season, it's a good idea to buy extra and freeze it for later. Just be sure to wash it and dry it well before storing in a freezer safe airtight container.

This healthy recipe would also be great with some add-ins like a scoop of almond butter and a teaspoon of chia seeds.

Vanilla protein powder will add flavor and protein making this a powerhouse breakfast or snack.

No coconut milk on hand? Try some Greek yogurt instead.

    How to store

Smoothies are best served immediately after blending.

But it's possible to make them ahead for meal prep.

It's also a great idea for those busy mornings when grab-and-go is the only option.

How do I make a smoothie and save it for later?

Make your smoothie then pour it into a mason jar or another glass container with a tight fitting lid. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Separation is likely, so you can vigorously shake it, or pop it back into the blender for a few seconds.

    Can I freeze a smoothie?

Yes, you can also store your smoothie in the freezer for up to three months. Let it thaw overnight in the refrigerator. This is a great option for meal prep.
